Or “Why do we go to Mass?”
Or “What actually happens at Communion?”
If your child is preparing for their First Holy Communion, they’re probably full of questions—and let’s be honest, some of them are big ones. What if you’re not sure how to answer? What if you have questions too?
Take a deep breath. You don’t need to be a theologian. Here’s how to keep the conversation natural, honest, and fun.
Faith doesn’t need to be complicated. If your child asks, “Who is God?”, you can say:
“God is love. He made us, He loves us, and He wants to be close to us.”
Not sure about something? It’s okay to admit it! Try: “That’s a great question! Let’s find out together.”
Children learn by watching us. If they see you saying a short prayer, lighting a candle, or even just taking a quiet moment, they’ll learn that faith isn’t just words—it’s a way of life.
Instead of just answering their questions, ask them what they think!
❓ “What do you imagine God is like?”
❓ “Why do you think Jesus wants us to love one another?”
You might be surprised by their wisdom!
If you feel unsure, don’t worry—you’re on the journey together. Keep the conversation open, explore faith in small ways, and enjoy discovering it through your child’s eyes.
Because in the end, faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about walking the journey together.
